Questions from A Yankee Coming South!

Here to provide advice!

We love to provide advice to anyone looking to join us in paradise. Take a look at a recent email from a fellow Yankee from Long Island with some questions she had!

Hi!!

So I randomly came across your Instagram page…we may be yankees headed down to Charleston as well!! Honest honest opinion….how are the BUGS!?!? We’re coming from Long Island, so it would be a huge transition, I’m just a little weary about the wildlife ??! Thanks for your input, really appreciate it! Oh and we’re looking at Carolina Park, I’On, and Belle Hall…do you feel like it’s a welcoming environment for out of staters?? Thanks again!

Best,
Kristin

Thanks for reaching out! We absolutely love it here. Bugs are an issue in the evenings in most places so we have gotten used to keeping a bottle of Skin-So-Soft in the cars. To tell you the truth, it’s like being at the beach (Long Island or Jersey Shore). We have “no-see-ums” (just like we had in the Northeast) which are truly the only issue, and the bug spray works. As for the often talked about “Palmetto Bug” (aka cockroach that can live in palm trees), I’ve seen maybe 1 since we’ve been here (since Dec 26th of 2017).
As for the transition, don’t worry about it at all!!! Mount Pleasant is about 1/3 SC, 1/3 northeast and 1/3 Ohio. The only true transition is bagels LOL. We have them shipped down! Everyone is very welcoming and nice. The area has grown what seems like 10x in the last 5 years, everyone is petty much a new-comer! Its pretty rare to ask “where are you from,” and get a response of “Charleston” or “Mount Pleasant.”
Let us know if you have any other questions! More than happy to help.

As for the rest of you, please feel free to reach out to us at any time or follow our Facebook & Instagram pages!

Best,
Yankees!!!
